Serial products are still favoured in measurement technology and are thus very common. They are mainly used to parameterise devices or for data retrieval from measuring devices and sensors.
A distinction is made between the following protocols in serial communication: RS232, RS422, RS485 and 20 mA Current Loop. These protocols are suitable, for example, for retrofit projects with sensors which support serial data transmission. This means huge cost savings and also means that tried and tested sensor technology can continue to be used for a long time.
Wide range of products
The suitable protocol can be selected as required and according to the connected devices. The protocols which are used to extend the COM ports of a computer can also be combined as required. Sensors with different serial protocols can be connected to one PC board. Depending on the board type, there are 1, 2, 4 or 8 slots on the basic board. The PC boards are available for PCI Express, PCI and CompactPCI.
Reliable thanks to safety functions
Sensors with a serial connection can even be used in harsh field environments without any problems. The ports of ADDI-DATA’s serial interfaces are optically isolated from each other. This is important because there is always the possibility in industrial environments that potential differences could occur. In order to be able to guarantee completely reliable data transfers, EMC protective circuits have also been implemented. In this way, the applications and interfaces are protected from electromagnetic radiation and also release very little harmful radiation.
Special requirements generally call for special solutions. That is why ADDI-DATA products can be adapted to the customer’s wishes at any time. For serial interfaces, for example, the baud rate (which can reach up to 1 Mbaud) can be set to the frequency required by the customer. This is the only way in which truly lossless data transfers can be guaranteed.
